================================================================= hLaTeXp, Hangul (Korean) LaTeX2e system 1996/01/14 Version Copyright (C) 1995-1996 Jae Choon Cha. All Rights are reserved. ================================================================= hLaTeXp is an extension of LaTeX2e system, making it possible to use Hangul in LaTeX2e documents. The followings are some properties of hLaTeXp. - Hangul(Korean), Hanja(Chinese), symbol characters defined in KS C 5601 code system can be used in LaTeX2e documents. - Of course no converters are required for Hangul typesetting. - Complete compatibility with original LaTeX2e (for English). - Fast compilation speed relative to other LaTeX2e's for Hangul. - Compatibility with various TeX utilities (for English). No patch versions are required. - Provide 31 Hangul fonts, 2 Hanja fonts, 1 Symbol fonts. - Perform correct line breaking for paragraphs with Hangul. - Provide commands determining suitable Eul, Reul, Yi, Ga, .... - Provide Koreanized standard document classes: article, report, book and letter. - Provide Korean style enumeration (like Ga, Na, Da, ...) commands. - Display Hangul in TeX's error messages correctly. To display Hangul correctly in error messages, a TeX compiler of the author, called hTeXp, is required. It is strongly recommended to use hLaTeXp with hTeXp. Usually you can get hTeXp where you get hLaTeXp. However, there is no loss when you use other TeX, except that you cannot see correct error messages and cannot get correctly generated .aux, .toc, .idx files when Hangul is used in your document. A document hltxman.tex explaining hLaTeXp in detail is contained in the distribution. You can typeset it using hLaTeXp after installation. Where to obtain hLaTeXp ----------------------- The Home of Hangul TeX Archive (knot.kaist.ac.kr) is the official distribution site of hLaTeXp, hTeXp, and x-series fonts. Of course, you can get them from other mirror sites. Installation ------------ (1) Necessary files To install hLaTeXp, you need: - Files in the hLaTeXp distribution (in ftp://knot.kaist.ac.kr/pub/htex/hlatexp and its subdirectories) - X-series Hangul/Hanja/Symbol font files (in ftp://knot.kaist.ac.kr/pub/htex/htex-fonts and its subdirectories) The home of hangul TeX archive (knot.kaist.ac.kr) is the official distribution site of hLaTeXp and X-family fonts. hLaTeXp files are in the "/pub/htex/hlatexp" directory of Home of Hangul TeX Archive. You can get a set of Hangul/Hanja/Symbol fonts from the "pub/htex/htex-fonts" directory of the home of hangul TeX archive. The font files that you need are determined by your printing devices. At this writing, 300dpi and 600dpi PK fonts are provided. You MUST get all the tfm files of Hangul/Hanja/Symbol fonts. They are in "/pub/htex/htex-fonts/tfm" directory of the home of hangul TeX archive. But you can install only part of entire PK fonts if you want to save space. Of course, you need standard TeX fonts for English. If you are already a user of LaTeX, then maybe they are already installed. (2) How to dump hLaTeXp First, install all TFM files and PK files of x-series Hangul/Hanja/Symbol fonts into your TeX installation. To dump hLaTeXp, a complete LaTeX2e (for English) distribution package is necessary. We will call it "non-localized LaTeX2e". For user's convinience, an unpacked version of non-localized LaTeX2e is included in hLaTeXp. In most cases, you can simply use this non-localized LaTeX2e. It is the most recent version at the release of this version of hLaTeXp. At your "hlatexp/unpacked" directory, try to dump non-localized LaTeX2e following the documentation of non-localized LaTeX2e. Usually no configuration is needed and just a running of "initex" on latex.ltx suffices. If you use hTeXp, which is the recommended TeX compiler for hLaTeXp, then htexp latex.ltx will work. If you use typical un*x version TeX, then initex latex.ltx will work. If you failed, then refer documentations of your TeX compiler and your original LaTeX2e. If you successfully dumped non-localized LaTeX2e, now dump hLaTeXp at your unpacked directory using your initex. htexp hlatex.ltx or initex hlatex.ltx will work. Test hLaTeXp by a command like: htexp "&hlatex" hltxman You can view hltxman.dvi, the user's guide of hLaTeXp, via your dvi driver if you installed tfm files and PK files of x-series fonts correctly. (3) Copy files into TeX system directories Copy the following files from the unpacked directory into your TeX format directory (e.g. /usr/local/tex/htexpformats): hlatex.fmt latex.fmt Copy the following files from the unpacked directory into your TeX input directory (e.g. /usr/local/tex/htexpinputs): dbfont.map hltxman.tex latexbug.tex testpage.tex lablst.tex idx.tex nfssfont.tex small2e.tex sample2e.tex docstrip.tex *.sty *.cls *.clo *.sty *.fd *.def *.cfg If you use MakeIndex, copy the following files into your MakeIndex input directory: *.idx Now the installation is completed. You can use hLaTeXp like: htexp "&hlatex" thesis It is strongly recommended to create a shell script named "hlatex" such that "hlatex thesis" is equivalent to "htexp &hlatex thesis". User's manual ------------- A hLaTeXp document "hltxman.tex" is provided. It explains how to use various features of hLaTeXp.
